“Thank you” I said, as I closed out my meeting, shut my laptop and sat at my desk reflecting, feeling the tears run out of my eyes.

My hands pressed against my forehead trying to rest but unable to feel the break from the feedback I had just received.

In a 20 minute zoom meeting, my editing professor had just torn through the past two months of my short film, deconstructing how so many parts of it were incorrect and misconstruing my actual 8mm film footage to be a gimmick filter I had overlaid.

I felt hurt, discombobulated, and unsure of how to move forward.

Within 24 hours, a personal documentary I adored lost all of the joy it had.

So I was left questioning:

How can we as creatives give and receive feedback when our work ends up being so personal?

Not only do we have to consider the customer and our experiences as a maker, but…
