How Artists Consistently Battle Two FrontWars

A Divided Attention for Job Security and Artistic Content.

Artists are always fighting to create good work, AND to be financially independent.

And one of the difficulties among that statement is that those two ideas don’t always align, especially in the beginning.

An example of that in the film industry is when networking through different indie or studio shoots, there comes a point where you are able to do your job well, but it doesn’t feel like you have contributed enough to the story for yourself to even add it to your reel.

As a result, even if you are able to network on set, getting paid to continue to help create, you are left still needing to do artistic work on your own because in the longterm that’s one of the main ways to continue to build one’s artistic ability.

This simple thought discussion is not to necessarily provide direct answers because much of one’s ability to take an artistic leap and do a project that may not pay is dependent on one’s financial saftey net which varies for every person.
