Why I Took A Gap Quarter from College in 2021
To be happy again
Let me explain,
I’m currently a sophomore in DePaul University studying Film and Television to go into the workforce in the camera space for both film and animation based productions.
When schools began to shut down in March 2020, I decided to continue to take online courses and complete my General Education classes alongside some of my major requirements. But by my Winter quarter of 2020–2021, I realized that I am supposed to be taking hands-on production courses that when taught online from what I have heard is simply making YouTube videos with a bit of feedback.
And I don’t pay to go to school for that.
I came to DePaul for access to equipment, resources like our editing booths and sound stages, as well as to network with my peers and build rapport with my professors. And currently, many of those opportunities have been hindered by the lack of saftey of in-person meetings.
But whats the real truth, is it just about the curriculum and professional development?
No. In all honesty, I was tired of being unable to make friends online and I stopped enjoying school.
In general, I enjoy the small conversations that I have with the people I sit next to before class starts and the ease of access to be able to meet with others on a whim. But just constantly joining a…
